Nautilus Games and Ysbryd Games have announced the release date for their upcoming title, Everdeep Aurora, set to launch on July 10, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam). A brand-new trailer has also been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the game’s captivating world.
This retro-style 2D action game is set in a world where civilization has been driven underground by meteor showers. Players take on the role of “Shell,” a cat who was left on the surface. Shell embarks on a quest to find his missing mother, armed with a drill to navigate the vast underground world known as “Everdeep.” The gameplay focuses on exploration of procedurally generated environments, interacting with unique inhabitants, and solving puzzles, rather than combat.
A demo of the game will be available during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. You can already find the demo on the Steam store page (the event starts on June 10th in Japan).
Delve into the Depths: Everdeep Aurora Launches on PC and Nintendo Switch this July
On June 8, 2025, Nautilus Games and Ysbryd Games revealed that their retro-style 2D action title, Everdeep Aurora, will be released on Steam and Nintendo Switch on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Alongside this announcement, a new trailer was released. A demo will also be available as part of the Steam Next Fest, starting June 9th.
Everdeep Aurora presents a hopeful narrative within a desolate and melancholic setting, all wrapped in a charming retro aesthetic.
The game’s story unfolds in a world where meteor impacts have forced humanity to seek refuge underground. Shell, a feline left behind on the ravaged surface, discovers a letter from his missing mother, rekindling his hope. He grabs his drill and begins a journey into the expansive underground realm of “Everdeep” in search of his family. Eschewing combat, the game emphasizes exploration. Players will unearth the secrets of this subterranean world, encounter its peculiar residents, and solve intricate puzzles to uncover the hope that remains in this lonely world.
Meet the Inhabitants: A Diverse Cast in a Subterranean World
Each resident of Everdeep has their own unique musical theme. As you complete quests for them, you’ll build trust and relationships. Viktor, the pawnbroker snake, offers new tools and decorations, but be wary of the scheming Murr, a seemingly kind-hearted mouse who might try to trick Shell into doing his dirty work. These bonds will become a source of strength as you drill deeper, even when the music of your friends fades into the distance.
The game features retro graphics and sound reminiscent of the classic NES, a carefully chosen color palette, and a square interface. Smoothly animated cutscenes and color gradients that change with each biome make Shell’s world visually appealing.
A Word from Mikel Ojea, Co-Founder of Nautilus Games
“When depicting Shell’s underground adventure in the closed world of Everdeep, we faced the challenge of creating an entirely new civilization. We had to carefully consider how the inhabitants would live in this unknown space. As a result, we were able to create an amazing world. We are proud to share this world with new explorers.”
A new demo of the game will be released at Steam Next Fest. Join Shell as he explores the mysterious underground mansion hidden in Everdeep.
